Gaza Bleeds on Day 578: War and Starvation Tighten Grip as Israeli Attacks Continue

On the 578th day of Israel’s war on Gaza, the Strip endures yet another wave of devastating attacks. Renewed Israeli shelling struck Al-Karama School in Al-Tuffah, killing one and injuring another, while artillery and airstrikes rained down on multiple neighbourhoods including Al-Shuja’iya, Rafah, and Beit Lahia. In central Gaza, two members of the Baraka family — father and son — were killed in a drone strike, and the body of a Palestinian missing for days was pulled from the rubble of the UNRWA-run Abu Hmaysa School in Al-Bureij.

Civilians continued to bear the brunt of the violence. In Al-Shuja’iya, Ammar Al-Sousi and his wife Nahed were killed in their home, while Ezz Al-Din Abu Jahal died in an airstrike near the Al-Lababidi intersection. Mohammad Al-Balawi lost his life when a bakery in Al-Nuseirat was bombed, and a young girl, Nour Hindi Rajaa Abu Taima, was killed by shelling on displaced persons’ tents near the Turkish slaughterhouse in Khan Younis.

Meanwhile, child Abdullah Mohammad Zaki Al-Dardisi died in Egypt from injuries sustained in an earlier attack, becoming the latest member of his family to be lost. Elsewhere, Mohammad Ghazi Al-Yazji died from wounds sustained in a previous strike on Al-Wahda Street market, as drone and artillery fire continued to target crowded residential areas, fuelling further panic among already traumatised communities.

As famine tightens its grip and the death toll climbs, Gaza’s civilians remain trapped between relentless bombardment and a deepening humanitarian crisis. With medical facilities overwhelmed and basic supplies running out, calls for international protection and an end to the blockade have never been more urgent — yet the world continues to look away.
