Gaza's Last Cancer Hospital Silenced as Israeli Strikes Deepen Health Crisis

The only cancer treatment facility left in Gaza has been forced out of service after Israeli airstrikes devastated the European Gaza Hospital in Khan Yunis, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. This latest attack, carried out without warning, struck the hospital's main entrances and surrounding roads, effectively cutting off all access and plunging one of Gaza’s most critical medical lifelines into darkness.

Once a rare sanctuary offering specialised surgeries and vital oncology care, the hospital now lies silent. Patients in need of urgent treatment — including hundreds battling cancer — have been left with nowhere to turn. With the Turkish Friendship Hospital already destroyed, Gaza's healthcare system has lost its final thread of cancer support.

The airstrikes not only destroyed key departments but also damaged sewage systems and vital infrastructure. Health officials say the attack deliberately targeted a facility already stretched beyond capacity. Medical staff and patients were forced to flee amid the chaos, many left injured or worse.

At least 35 Palestinians were killed in the surrounding area, including families trapped in their homes and people on the streets. Civil defence teams came under fire while attempting rescue operations. Even journalists documenting the scene were among the wounded.

Palestinian officials and rights groups are calling this a deliberate strategy to break the population’s will — dismantling what remains of Gaza’s collapsing health system. The Ministry of Health has urged the international community to act immediately, warning that without urgent protection for medical workers and facilities, Gaza’s remaining health services will cease to exist.
