The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning that only an immediate and uninterrupted surge of humanitarian assistance can halt Gaza’s descent into full-scale famine, as Israel’s brutal siege enters its third relentless month.
In a statement on X, the agency stressed that the humanitarian catastrophe gripping the besieged enclave has reached unbearable levels since Israeli forces sealed all crossings on 2 March, cutting off food, medicine, and essential supplies. "Gaza’s people cannot endure another day of waiting," UNRWA declared, underscoring that a minimum of 500 to 600 aid trucks daily—coordinated by the UN—are needed to stave off mass starvation.
The death toll from Israel’s deliberate starvation campaign continues to climb, with at least 58 Palestinians perishing from malnutrition and 242 more—mostly children and elderly—succumbing to hunger and preventable disease over the past 80 days. Nearly 2.4 million Palestinians, trapped under Israel’s blockade, now face famine as aid convoys remain stranded at checkpoints, their contents rotting while Gaza starves.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have escalated their genocidal assault, launching fresh ground invasions across northern and southern Gaza. Backed by unwavering American political and military support, Israel’s war of annihilation has slaughtered or maimed more than 176,000 Palestinians since October, the majority women and children, with over 11,000 still buried beneath the rubble—missing, presumed dead.
UNRWA’s plea is unequivocal: without an immediate ceasefire and unfettered aid access, Gaza’s annihilation is inevitable. Yet as the world watches, Israel’s siege tightens, and the slaughter continues unchecked.
