UNRWA: Only Sustained Aid Can Prevent Gaza Catastrophe

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that Gaza faces irreversible collapse unless humanitarian aid flows uninterrupted and at scale. In a statement Sunday, the agency stressed that at least 500-600 aid trucks daily—coordinated through UN channels—are needed to stave off famine.

UNRWA emphasized that Gaza’s 2.3 million people cannot wait any longer. Aid deliveries have been completely halted since March 2, with Israel only approving a limited resumption on May 4 under a controversial framework resembling the so-called "Humanitarian Gaza Foundation"—a model rights groups say prioritizes Israeli control over neutral relief efforts.

The statement comes as Israel’s military offensive, backed by the U.S., enters its ninth month, leaving over 176,000 Palestinians killed or wounded70% of them women and children—and more than 11,000 missing under rubble. UNRWA’s appeal underscores the urgent need for unimpeded aid access to prevent what experts now call a "man-made famine."
