French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has condemned the fatal chaos at food distribution points in Gaza as “a scandal, a disgrace, and a violation of humanity,” denouncing the ongoing Israeli military assault as unjustifiable.
The controversial U.S.-backed “Humanitarian Gaza” aid mechanism, implemented last month with Israeli support, has drawn sharp criticism from international bodies. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the distribution system “unsafe and deadly,” lamenting that UN-led humanitarian efforts are being “strangled” and that aid workers themselves face starvation. Guterres emphasised that seeking food in Gaza should never be a death sentence and reminded Israel of its legal obligation, as the occupying power, to ensure humanitarian relief.
Médecins Sans Frontières echoed these concerns, accusing the Israeli-American distribution plan of degrading Palestinians and forcing them to risk their lives for scant supplies.
With over two million Palestinians trapped under siege, restricted crossings, and shrinking aid, Gaza faces a catastrophic hunger crisis, one made worse by a system that turns aid into a deadly gamble.
