Airdrops Cannot Replace Open Crossings as Gaza Starves

As famine tightens its grip on Gaza, calls are growing louder for land crossings to be opened to allow lifesaving aid in. The current reliance on costly and inadequate airdrops has failed to meet the needs of over two million people facing catastrophic hunger.

Thousands of aid trucks remain stalled at the borders, blocked by restrictions that have turned Gaza into a sealed enclave. During a brief ceasefire earlier this year, the entry of hundreds of trucks daily managed to reach the entire population and ease starvation, proving that only unrestricted land access can avert disaster.

With famine worsening and no sustainable solution in sight, urgent political action is needed to reopen crossings and deliver food, medicine, and supplies on a scale that air deliveries simply cannot achieve. Gaza’s survival now hinges on breaking the blockade and restoring safe, uninterrupted aid access.
