Starvation and Bombs Tighten Israel’s Grip on Gaza’s Survival

In Gaza, the sound of explosions now competes with the cries of hunger. Over the past 24 hours alone, dozens have been killed and hundreds injured as Israeli warplanes and artillery pound the besieged strip. Among the dead were civilians gunned down while queuing for food, an act that shatters any illusion of humanitarian protection. The blockade, now in its second year of intensified brutality, has transformed hunger into a weapon, stripping an entire population of its most basic right: the ability to live.

The death toll since October 2023 has climbed above 61,000, the overwhelming majority women and children. Food supplies are deliberately choked at the borders; farmland, warehouses and bakeries systematically destroyed. Hospitals lie in ruins, their halls eerily silent except for the moans of those denied medicine and urgent care. In the ruins of Gaza City, families sift through rubble under the roar of drones, desperate for a handful of grain or a sip of clean water.

International law experts warn that Israel’s actions amount to genocide, not only through relentless bombardment but by orchestrating mass starvation. Humanitarian agencies have sounded the alarm for months, yet the siege tightens, and the bombs keep falling. Gaza is being pushed to the edge of survival, and the question remains: how long can the world watch before conscience turns into action?
