The Palestinian Ministry of Health has unveiled an emergency plan to reopen the European Gaza Hospital, which suffered extensive damage in recent Israeli assaults. Officials described the facility as having been “directly and systematically targeted,” leaving critical medical infrastructure, equipment, and services in ruins.
Assessments indicate severe destruction to the hospital’s water, sewage, electricity, and oxygen systems, along with structural damage to multiple buildings. The ministry estimates that a preliminary reopening phase will take up to two months and require $1.3 million, while full restoration could take six months at a projected cost of $4.3 million, contingent on securing adequate funding.
Health authorities warned that the hospital’s closure continues to overwhelm other medical centres in Gaza, worsening the humanitarian crisis and contributing to preventable deaths. They affirmed that no hospitals in the region will be evacuated despite ongoing attacks, emphasising that reopening the European Gaza Hospital is essential to providing urgent medical care and saving lives.
