Once an active young man, Moaz Darwish’s life was upended by the war in Gaza. Trapped under the rubble of his home, he sustained a severe leg injury that left him largely immobile. Since then, his health has deteriorated dramatically, with malnutrition, painful boils, and the collapse of basic services compounding both his physical and psychological suffering.
Speaking to Snd News Agency, Darwish recalled a life before the conflict filled with sports, outings, and daily routines now impossible. He described the pain of his current condition as indescribable, worsened by the lack of medical care and the harsh realities of life under siege. Despite a temporary truce, his frail body reflects the relentless toll of starvation and neglect. He called on humanitarian organisations and the international community for urgent help, including medical treatment abroad, to alleviate his suffering.
The crisis in Gaza is not limited to individuals like Darwish. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warns that famine has reached unprecedented levels, with 1.2 million children facing severe food insecurity. Decades of blockade and ongoing military assaults have created conditions where survival itself has become a daily struggle, highlighting the urgent need for international intervention.
