The approaching rainy season threatens to unleash a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where infrastructure and public services have been decimated by nearly two years of genocidal war. Streets are choked with waste and sewage, while pumping stations damaged in recent assaults have left rainwater collection basins overflowing, creating a serious health hazard.
The suspension of reconstruction projects, combined with shortages of fuel, machinery, and emergency equipment, leaves low-lying neighbourhoods especially vulnerable to flooding. Overflowing sewage networks and stagnant water could trigger outbreaks of disease, compounding the suffering of a population already struggling to survive amid widespread destruction.
Authorities have called on the international community for urgent action to halt the ongoing genocide, deliver essential supplies, and support emergency measures to protect civilians. Without immediate intervention, Gaza faces a winter of unprecedented disaster, where the threat of floods and epidemics adds to the daily toll of violence and deprivation.
