Hamas Official: Al-Aqsa Flood Forced Palestine Back onto Global Agenda

Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan has declared that the 7 October operation successfully returned the Palestinian cause to international prominence, citing recent Western recognitions of Palestinian statehood as evidence of shifting global attitudes. In a press conference on Sunday, Hamdan acknowledged these diplomatic developments as positive but insufficient, stressing that tangible progress toward an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital remains essential.

Hamdan criticised the absence of meaningful negotiation efforts by Israel or the United States, accusing the Israeli government of deliberately prolonging the conflict. He framed the war in Gaza as part of a broader Israeli expansionist project threatening regional stability, and called for comprehensive sanctions to pressure Israel into complying with international law. The Hamas leader outlined the group’s conditions for any future talks, including a permanent ceasefire, full aid access, reconstruction, and a Palestinian-led governance structure in Gaza.

Concluding his remarks, Hamdan affirmed that Palestinian resistance would continue until occupation ends, emphasising that “symbolic recognition must be matched by actionable pressure.” He credited the Al-Aqsa Flood operation with compelling the world to re-engage with Palestinian rights, achievements earned, he said, through collective sacrifice and steadfastness.
