The Freedom Flotilla is preparing to depart the Greek coast towards Gaza, determined to challenge Israel’s blockade despite repeated attacks and threats. More than 500 international activists are now on board 25 vessels, joined by an Italian relief ship and six newly added Greek boats. Participants include doctors, artists, and human rights advocates from 44 countries, all insisting their mission is one of solidarity and humanitarian urgency.
Activists reported that several ships were recently targeted with flare bombs and drone strikes, causing fires and damage to sails, while communication systems were jammed. Despite these assaults, no casualties were reported, and repairs are underway at sea. Organisers confirmed morale remains high, with many emphasising that even symbolic aid carries immense weight as a message of hope for Gaza’s besieged population.
The flotilla has faced escalating threats from Israel, which has warned against entering what it calls a “combat zone.” Yet participants insist that their journey is protected under international law and is a direct response to Gaza’s worsening famine and the ongoing war. For them, the blockade represents a collective punishment on more than two million civilians, and breaking it has become both a humanitarian necessity and a moral obligation.
