A Mother’s Ordeal: Survival, Displacement and the Quest for Healing

Ghadir Al-Rudee’ and her three children live with the enduring scars of war. Displaced multiple times and carrying wounds from a targeted attack on their home, their lives have become a struggle for survival amid the relentless blockade and devastation of Gaza. Injuries sustained in the bombing have left Ghadir unable to walk and her family reliant on scarce medical aid, while the ongoing closure of crossings denies them hope of proper treatment abroad.

Her story reflects the broader reality for thousands in Gaza: lives uprooted, basic needs unmet, and access to healthcare systematically denied. Hospitals struggle under the weight of casualties and a crippling shortage of supplies, forcing painful delays in care. For Ghadir, whose injuries require urgent and specialised treatment unavailable locally, the blockade has transformed a medical need into an unattainable hope. The daily fight for survival continues not just in the face of wounds, but in the absence of the humanitarian lifeline that could bring healing.

For many families, hope is pinned on an end to the violence and the reopening of crossings, a moment when medical aid and safe passage might finally reach those in desperate need. Yet, for now, thousands endure displacement, famine, and the heavy toll of war, their pleas for relief echoing against a blockade that shows no sign of lifting. The war, now entering its 722nd day, has left tens of thousands dead, hundreds of thousands wounded, and countless more living in peril.
