Hamas Rejects Tony Blair’s Involvement in Gaza Administration After Ceasefire

Following the recent ceasefire in Gaza, Hamas has firmly rejected any participation by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the governance of the Strip. Speaking to international media, a senior Hamas official emphasised that while the movement appreciates the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in facilitating the end of the two-year genocidal war, Blair would not be welcome in any administrative capacity in Gaza.

Hamas officials recalled Blair’s controversial tenure as Quartet envoy for the Middle East and his role in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, highlighting the enduring distrust among Palestinians and other Arab and Muslim communities. The movement insists that the future political and administrative arrangements in Gaza are an exclusively Palestinian matter, and that any transitional authority must be determined by local national actors without external oversight.

The announcement comes amid discussions of a U.S.-proposed “Peace Committee,” designed to oversee a five-year interim authority in Gaza composed of international technocrats. The plan, which would give the committee full political and legal powers, had included Blair among its members. Hamas, along with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, stressed in a joint statement that foreign tutelage is unacceptable and reaffirmed that the administration of Gaza’s institutions must remain in Palestinian hands.
