In a significant development following 700 days of genocidal war, the final living Israeli prisoners held in Gaza were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross on Monday. The Palestinian resistance movement completed the release of all 13 remaining captives from the second group, while an initial group of seven had already been transferred earlier in the morning. This marked the conclusion of the release of every living Israeli prisoner held in the territory.
Simultaneously, Palestinian prisoners held by Israel were transported towards the Karem Abou Salem crossing for imminent release, signalling the first stage of a ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, under U.S. supervision. Indirect talks in Sharm El-Sheikh finalised the arrangements, illustrating how sustained resilience and negotiation can yield humanitarian outcomes even amid prolonged warfare.
The military wing of the Palestinian resistance highlighted that Israel could have recovered many of its prisoners months earlier but had failed due to a strategy of military pressure, which only led to unnecessary deaths. The statement emphasised that the successful exchange now stems from the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their fighters, underscoring that adherence to the ceasefire depends entirely on Israel honouring its commitments.
