Yemen Urges Islamic Unity as Gaza Ceasefire Offers Fragile Hope

As Gaza witnesses the first moments of quiet after two years of relentless bombardment, Yemen has called on Arab and Muslim nations to adopt a unified stance against Israel’s continued violations in the region. Speaking on the 62nd anniversary of Yemen’s revolution, Mahdi al-Mashat, President of the Supreme Political Council, reaffirmed his government’s steadfast support for the people of Gaza and warned that Yemen would closely monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Al-Mashat hailed the “heroic resilience of the Palestinian people” and the solidarity shown by movements and nations that stood by Gaza throughout the genocide. He praised Lebanon’s Hezbollah, as well as the peoples of Iraq and Iran, for their unwavering support, while commending countries that have cut ties with Israel or imposed sanctions in protest against what he described as “a crime of genocide and starvation.”

Yemen’s leadership has positioned itself as a vocal supporter of Palestinian resistance since the start of the genocidal war in October 2023. Over the past two years, Yemeni forces have launched multiple operations targeting ships linked to or heading towards Israel, declaring their actions as solidarity with Gaza’s besieged population.

For Yemen, this ceasefire represents more than a pause in violence; it is a test of global conscience. Al-Mashat’s call for a united Islamic front echoes a deeper regional sentiment, that the defence of Gaza is inseparable from the moral and political responsibility of the entire Muslim world. Whether this unity can be achieved remains uncertain, but Gaza’s endurance continues to inspire those who see in it the unbroken pulse of a people determined to survive.
