At the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti reiterated Tunisia’s enduring commitment to South-South cooperation and its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause. Speaking on 15 October, Nafti stressed the importance of a shared vision to strengthen solidarity among member states.
He highlighted Tunisia’s adherence to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at Bandung in 1955 and Belgrade in 1961, and outlined the country’s approach to political, economic, and development challenges facing member states. Nafti called for stronger South-South cooperation, equitable North-South relations, and a reform of the global financial system along just and comprehensive lines. He also recalled Tunisia’s call at the “Paris Summit for a New Financial Pact” in June 2023 to promote good governance, fight corruption, honour financial commitments by developed nations, return stolen funds, and adopt a collective approach to migration that addresses its root causes.
Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to international humanitarian law, protection of migrant rights, and voluntary repatriation, while emphasising the role of culture in fostering human and social ties among states. He underlined Tunisia’s consistent support for Palestinian self-determination, asserting that the recent ceasefire must not absolve the international community from holding the Israeli occupation accountable for acts of genocide and collective persecution, nor from rejecting any attempts to displace the Palestinian people or undermine their legitimate cause.
