London’s Red Ribbon Mobilisation Spotlights Over 9,100 Palestinian Detainees

A striking demonstration unfolded in Westminster, London, where streets were awash with red banners and ribbons, a bold visual plea for the release of more than 9,100 Palestinians held in occupation prisons, among them hundreds of children, women, medical workers and detainees without charge. Organisers chose the colour red as a symbol of lives lost, deep anguish and enduring hope, seeking to etch this campaign into global consciousness.

Through a campaign titled “Release the Palestinian Prisoners”, participants marched to keep the plight of those behind bars from fading into the background. The red signage carried a dual message: to register the suffering of the incarcerated and to emphasise the resilience of a people under systemic detention. According to reports, roughly 3,544 are held under administrative detention, while the wider tally includes 53 women and 400 children.

The London event signals a wider effort to internationalise what solidarity groups describe as part of a genocidal war against Palestinians, one in which detention without fair trial and mass incarceration are central features. Advocates say that by transforming red into a universal emblem of resistance, the campaign seeks to unify voices across continents, compelling governments and civil society to act.
