Aid Stalled at the Border as Gaza Faces a Deepening Humanitarian Breakdown

Thousands of aid lorries loaded with food, shelter materials and basic supplies remain parked outside Gaza’s crossing points, blocked from entering despite the widening humanitarian collapse inside the Strip. According to humanitarian officials, the withheld aid represents enough food to sustain the population for months, yet families continue to queue for hours in front of empty distribution centres. Supplies such as tents, blankets and essential equipment, urgently needed by the more than one million displaced people, are also being kept back, leaving entire communities exposed to harsh weather in makeshift camps.

Although the number of trucks entering the Strip has risen slightly since the declared pause in the genocidal war, the deliveries are still far below what is required to stabilise daily life. Residents say shelves in the few functioning shops are nearly bare and prices have soared beyond what most families can afford. The purchasing power of the population has largely vanished, with only a handful of workers still able to buy basic goods. Meanwhile, many requests to bring in critical items, medical tools, water-system parts, sanitation equipment and specialist staff, continue to be rejected, permitting only minimal staples such as flour, canned food and limited medicines.

Local authorities warn that essential infrastructure is beginning to fail completely. Light rainfall last week caused sewage to spill into crowded neighbourhoods due to damaged pipes, collapsing thousands of already fragile tents. Waste is piling up in narrow streets near displacement camps, raising fears of disease outbreaks among children living in unsanitary conditions. The fuel shortage, described by municipal workers as the worst since the start of the genocide, has paralysed rubbish collection, water pumping and emergency services. Civil Defence crews say their vehicles cannot reach urgent calls, leaving communities without timely rescue or protection as the crisis deepens daily.
