As winter tightens its grip, the people living in temporary shelters across Gaza face a relentless struggle against rain, wind, and freezing temperatures. Tents that were meant to provide refuge have instead become fragile prisons, unable to shield families from the elements or preserve basic human dignity.
Night after night, families confront mud and soaked bedding, desperately attempting to keep warm while navigating the constant threat of collapsing shelters. Elderly residents like Huda Halles recount nights spent wringing out drenched clothes and seeking even brief moments of safety. “Will we remain moving from one place to another without stability?” she asks, her voice heavy with despair.
For others, such as Rania Halles, a mother of six, the ordeal is equally relentless. Her tent provides no relief from the winter’s harsh grip, leaving her children soaked and shivering. “Life is difficult, and only God knows how we endured the storm,” she says. She pleads for basic necessities: bedding, blankets, and warm clothing, all of which remain scarce.
The humanitarian situation worsens as severe weather continues. Civil Defence officials warn that tens of thousands of buildings are at risk of collapse, threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands. Temporary housing and emergency shelter supplies are urgently needed to prevent further suffering. Yet, entry remains blocked, leaving displaced families trapped in makeshift tents as winter shows no mercy.
