The ongoing winter storms in Gaza have claimed more lives as civil defense teams recovered two victims, a seven-year-old child and a 30-year-old woman, after a wall collapsed and they fell into a water well. The extreme weather has left temporary shelters and camps exposed to rain and flooding, intensifying the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, confirmed that crews conducted 49 emergency missions in the past 24 hours alone, maintaining maximum readiness as heavy rain and strong winds continue. Efforts included pumping out water from dozens of flooded tents, clearing drainage channels, and distributing tarpaulins to families with the support of local charitable organisations.
The Civil Defense also reported towing a Red Crescent vehicle trapped in a pool of water, highlighting the ongoing strain on emergency services. Officials stressed the importance of continued support for displaced families, whose fragile shelters offer little protection from both flooding and cold. With winter showing no signs of easing, displaced communities remain in urgent need of safe shelter, essential supplies, and protection from the worsening conditions.
