Swedes Rally Against Breach of Gaza Ceasefire

Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Stockholm on 26 December to denounce the continued attacks on Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement reached with Hamas on 10 October 2025. Organised by civil society groups, the protest at Odenplan Square saw participants holding placards reading messages such as “Children are being killed in Gaza,” “Schools and hospitals bombed,” and “End the food shortages.”

Protesters waved flags and urged the Swedish government to suspend arms sales to Israel. Speaking to Anadolu, activist Robin Nillson vowed that the demonstrations would continue until a lasting peace is achieved. He criticised the policies of Israeli leadership and highlighted the devastating human toll of the ongoing attacks. “Despite a severe humanitarian crisis and thousands of deaths, we have seen no tangible improvements,” he said. “Reports suggesting that the war could continue until the end of 2026 are alarming. If conditions do not improve, we will continue with mass protests and civil disobedience next year.”

Since October 2023, the attacks have claimed over 71,200 lives, mostly women and children, and injured more than 171,200 people in Gaza. Although the ceasefire came into effect on 10 October 2025, living conditions have shown no improvement. Humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies, and temporary housing, has failed to reach the population in sufficient quantities, leaving thousands of families still exposed to hardship.
