Former Palestinian Minister Detained During Hebron Charity Raid

In the southern West Bank city of Hebron, Israeli forces have detained the former Minister of Endowments, Hatem al-Bakri, during a raid on the headquarters of a local Islamic charitable organisation in the al-Hawuz area. Witnesses said troops entered the premises, ordered those inside to remain in place, and carried out a search operation before taking al-Bakri into custody.

The raid also reportedly involved the temporary detention and questioning of staff present at the organisation’s offices, as military personnel conducted on-site interrogations. The institution targeted is identified locally as the Islamic Charitable Society of Hebron, a long-established welfare body operating in the city’s social and humanitarian sphere, which has repeatedly faced restrictions and searches in recent years amid wider tensions linked to the ongoing genocidal war dynamics in the territory.

No immediate explanation was provided by the authorities for the detention. Such operations have become increasingly frequent across the West Bank, where senior figures, community leaders, and civil society actors have been detained during nighttime or early-morning raids, often in contexts described by observers as part of an expanding system of coercive control.
