A senior media official in Gaza has described a marked escalation in what he characterises as an ongoing genocidal war on the territory, arguing that recent developments indicate a deliberate shift towards more concentrated and direct targeting of civilians. According to his assessment, the pattern has moved from broad military bombardment to increasingly precise strikes against individuals and families, including those sheltering in displacement tents, signalling a deepening phase of violence against civilian spaces.
He further stated that 143 people were killed by gunfire during the period of a declared ceasefire, insisting these were not random incidents but deliberate acts directed at civilians. He emphasised that many of those killed were located in displacement camps and makeshift shelters, with women, children, and elderly people forming the majority of casualties, which he says underscores the indiscriminate impact on the most vulnerable segments of the population.
In recent days, he reported a renewed intensification of strikes on densely populated areas, including gathering points and shelter zones, alongside targeted killings of personnel associated with local policing structures, which he argues constitutes a breach of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, particularly distinction and proportionality. He also cited cumulative figures of 2,560 recorded violations, alongside 811 fatalities and 2,278 injuries since the ceasefire period began.
He added that humanitarian access has been severely restricted, with aid entry reportedly reduced to 37% of required levels and the Rafah crossing operating at just 28% capacity. This, he argues, reflects a broader strategy combining military pressure with the systematic constriction of essential supplies, placing sustained pressure on the civilian population and deepening an already critical humanitarian situation.
