Recent figures indicate a sharp rise in self-inflicted deaths among members of Israel’s security forces, with 11 soldiers and police officers reported to have died by suicide since the beginning of April. According to reported data, the cases include both active-duty personnel and reservists, some of whom had previously been deployed in operations linked to the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza.
Of the total, eight were serving in regular units within the military and police, while three were reservists who had been involved in combat duties during the war. Observers attribute the trend to sustained psychological pressure over recent years, compounded by the intensity and duration of military operations, which have placed significant strain on those serving.
The latest figures add to a broader upward trend in such incidents since October, with previous annual data showing a notable increase in both completed suicides and attempted cases within the ranks. Last year alone, 21 personnel reportedly took their own lives, while 279 attempts were recorded, highlighting what is described as a deepening mental health crisis within the security establishment.
