SAFA- Britain's Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, has condemned the General Synod of the Church of England for agreeing to consider documents on the suffering of Palestinians, including one that describes Israel's actions in Gaza as a "genocide." He called the move "shameful" and described it as "a sad day for Jewish-Christian relations."
Mirvis made the remarks after the Church of England's legislative body voted during its meeting in York to receive and discuss documents reflecting the experiences of Palestinian Christians, describing them as a heartfelt account of their lived reality.
Among the documents considered was Kairos Palestine II, titled "A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide." The document describes Israel's military campaign in Gaza as genocide and characterizes the Israeli occupation as a "colonial enterprise."
The text also states that "the Zionists do not want us to remain on our land, and their plan for us is displacement, death, or surrender."
The Church of England's decision has sparked debate amid growing calls from religious and human rights organizations around the world for greater recognition of the scale of alleged violations against Palestinians and for accountability regarding Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.
