SAFA- An Italian restaurant in the city of Padua, refused to remove the Palestinian flag from its facade, despite the cancelation of a reservation made by a delegation of "Israeli" businessmen for a meal. This stance sparked widespread interaction on social media after a video documenting the incident was circulated.
One of the owners of the cooperative that runs the Osteria Furi Porta restaurant appeared in a video, explaining that raising the Palestinian flag was an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people who are facing genocide and are enduring the horrors of the ongoing Israeli war.
He explained that a group of businessmen, including "Israeli" citizens, had reserved a table for six people, but they decided to cancel the reservation after one of their members saw the Palestinian flag raised on the restaurant's facade.
He added that the restaurant management received a call about twenty minutes after the reservation was confirmed, when the person who made the reservation informed them that one of his colleagues passed by the restaurant and noticed the Palestinian flag, and that its presence posed a problem for the group that was hosting an "Israeli" delegation, which led them to cancel the reservation.
The restaurant owner confirmed that the management did not hesitate to stand by their position, noting that the employees made a collective decision last year to participate in a strike in solidarity with the Palestinians.
They also took part in several protest events, including demonstrations held at the shipping center in the city of Padua.
He emphasized at the end of his speech the restaurant's continued expression of solidarity with the Palestinians, saying, "If our support for a people victimized by genocide, where thousands of children and thousands of unarmed civilians have been killed, is a problem for anyone, I say, don't come to eat here."
The incident has garnered widespread attention on social media platforms, where activists circulated the video documenting the restaurant management's stance, amid the growing grassroots initiatives in several European countries to show solidarity with the Palestinians since the onset of the Israeli genocide on Gaza.
