US deputies urge to withdraw tax exemption granted for organizations funding Israeli settlements

Rashida Tlaib, a member of the US Congress, sent a letter to Janet Yellen, the US secretary of the Treasury, in which she urged the administration of Joe Biden to end the tax exemption granted for the organizations and groups funding the illegal Israeli settlements.

The deputies who signed the letter Cori Bush, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, André Carson,  Mark Pocan, Ayanna Pressley, and Betty McCollum.

The deputies expressed their deep concerns about that the US relief institutes fund and provide support for Israeli organizations that work on expanding the illegal colonial project, which includes expropriation and forced displacement of Palestinians from eastern Jerusalem.

In 2015, a press investigation found that US relief organizations spent $220 million to fund Israeli settlements in the period between 2009 and 2013.

The letter focused on the Israeli Central Fund, which is registered as a non-profit organization in New York.

The settlers continue to commit day-to-day violations against the Palestinians' properties by burning fields and lands in the occupied West Bank and seizing houses, including the houses in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
