For over a year, Israel has been accused of committing genocide in Gaza, a situation extensively documented by international human rights groups such as Amnesty International. Despite the mounting evidence, the United States continues to deny these allegations, defending Israel’s actions and attempting to block any international recognition of the crimes. The US’s stance has been seen by many as an attempt to protect Israel from the consequences of its actions in Gaza.
Amnesty International’s recent report, based on credible evidence, accused Israel of committing genocide by systematically targeting Palestinians in Gaza. The report, which has been supported by several other human rights organisations, highlighted atrocities that echo the crimes of genocidal regimes in history. However, the US State Department rejected these findings, dismissing the claims as “baseless” and standing firmly behind Israel’s military actions, despite the clear documentation of war crimes.
Legal experts like Muhannad Karajah have criticised the US for its unwavering support of Israel, despite the occupation’s disregard for international law. Karajah emphasised that Israel, with full backing from the US, has a history of evading international resolutions and continues to act with impunity. The US’s rejection of the Amnesty report is viewed as further evidence of its complicity in the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Political analysts, including Hamada Faraana, argue that the US’s position represents a dangerous form of hypocrisy. While the US is quick to support international trials against other leaders, such as Putin or Bashir, it has actively obstructed attempts to prosecute Israeli officials for war crimes. By dismissing the overwhelming evidence of genocide in Gaza, the US is seen as enabling Israel’s actions, undermining international justice and accountability.
