Spanish Human Rights Association Awards Journalists in Gaza

The Spanish Human Rights Association awarded its 2024 honorary Human Rights Prize to Palestinian journalists who have suffered as victims of the genocide in the Gaza Strip during its forty-second session.

Muath Hamid, a correspondent for Al-Arabi TV in Madrid, accepted the award on behalf of the Palestinian journalists' movement. Emotional during his speech, Hamid remarked: "There are no words that can describe the suffering of my fellow journalists in the face of death, nor are there words to describe their determination to convey the truth to the world. These are the true heroes who face death at every moment."

Hamid presented detailed statistics on the number of martyrs, prisoners, and injured journalists in Gaza, as well as the destruction of media institutions during the ongoing conflict. Furthermore, he shared a special message from journalists in Gaza to the conference attendees, stating: "Their message continues to convey the voice of Gaza to the world."

The award ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including members of parliament and Spanish government ministers. This annual event celebrates individuals and institutions recognised for their commitment to defending human rights.

The Spanish Human Rights Association, one of Europe's oldest human rights organisations—established in 1948—has consistently championed the rights of journalists, viewing them as vital in documenting and exposing violations.
