Trump: I am committed to buying and owning Gaza, and I may grant parts of it to other countries.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is "committed to buying and owning Gaza," confirming that he might grant parts of the enclave to other Middle Eastern countries for reconstruction.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he would transform Gaza into a prime location for future development, care for the Palestinians, and ensure "they won’t be killed."
He added, "Gaza is a prime piece of real estate that we cannot leave... We will rebuild Gaza through other wealthy countries in the Middle East."
He continued, "I will look into individual cases to allow Palestinian refugees into America... and countries in the Middle East will receive Palestinians after speaking with me."
Trump claimed that "Palestinians would not want to return to Gaza if we provide them with a better alternative," accusing the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of being "disastrous" for the enclave. He said the detainees released from Gaza on Saturday "looked like they came out of a holocaust."
The U.S. president announced talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, without specifying a date.
Following this, Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas's political bureau, condemned Trump's statements, saying in a statement that Palestinians would thwart all plans aimed at displacing them.
Al-Rishq described Trump's remarks as "absurd and reflecting deep ignorance of Palestine and the region," emphasizing that "Gaza is not a piece of real estate to be bought and sold; it is an inseparable part of our occupied Palestinian land."
He added, "Dealing with the Palestinian issue with a real estate mentality is a recipe for failure. Our Palestinian people will foil all plans of displacement and deportation. Gaza belongs to its people, and they will only leave it to return to their cities and villages occupied in 1948."
Trump's proposal to remove over two million Palestinians living in Gaza and redevelop the enclave has sparked global condemnation and anger across the Arab and Islamic world.
Despite criticism from international allies and Arab countries, Trump insists on his proposal, stating earlier that "Israel will hand over the Gaza Strip to the United States after the fighting ends."
