Iran has condemned the US-Israeli plan to forcibly displace Palestinians, warning that it seeks to complete the genocide in Gaza through political means.
Speaking in a televised interview on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that Israel has been carrying out massacres and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians for 80 years. He accused the US and Israel of orchestrating a political strategy to expel Palestinians from Gaza and push them towards neighbouring countries, including Jordan, Egypt, and even Saudi Arabia.
Baghaei announced that Iran has called for an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers to address this critical issue, which he described as the foremost concern of the Muslim world. “This is nothing less than a warning about the ongoing genocidal threat against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza,” he stressed. The spokesperson also noted that the alarming situation in the occupied West Bank would be a key topic at the OIC meeting.
“The OIC was founded with the primary objective of addressing the Palestinian cause—the struggle for self-determination and liberation from occupation,” Baghaei stated. “Under international humanitarian law, occupied Palestine meets all the conditions that allow a nation to use every legitimate means to assert its right to self-determination.”
He further denounced Israel as a colonial entity imposed on the region after World War II, saying: “The entire world recognises that Israel is a racist apartheid regime.” Baghaei cited UN human rights reports from the past two years that document Israel’s expansionism, illegal settlement construction, and systematic erasure of Palestinian communities in the West Bank and Gaza.
Last month, former US President Donald Trump proposed that Washington take control of Gaza—potentially deploying American troops—to transform it into a “Riviera” in West Asia. He suggested that displaced Palestinians would not have a right to return, claiming they would have “much better housing” in Egypt, Jordan, and other countries.
Trump’s proposal to expel Gaza’s population and place the territory under US control sparked widespread outrage, including from Arab states. In response, Arab nations adopted a unified plan for Gaza’s future during an emergency summit in Cairo on Tuesday, rejecting Trump’s vision of forced displacement and foreign rule.
The US-backed scheme to push Palestinians out of Gaza comes amid mounting warnings from the UN regarding intensified Israeli raids in the occupied West Bank and large-scale displacement.
In February, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that Israel’s military aggression in the West Bank had forcibly displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
