Israeli Forces Resume Offensive in Gaza, Resulting in Hundreds of Casualties

Israeli forces have reignited their military campaign in Gaza, breaking a fragile ceasefire and unleashing a wave of airstrikes and bombings across the besieged enclave. The attacks, which began in the early hours of Tuesday, have targeted residential areas, shelters, and displacement camps, leaving a trail of devastation and claiming the lives of at least 404 Palestinians, with over 562 injured, many critically. Rescue teams are still working to recover bodies from the rubble, with many victims yet to be accounted for.

Among the dead are 153 from the southern regions of Khan Yunis and Rafah. In the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, a family home was struck, killing six, including two children. In Abasan, east of Khan Yunis, a Palestinian man, his wife, and their children were killed when their vehicle was hit. Further north, in Beit Lahia, six more lives were lost after a civilian car was bombed, while four others were killed near Al-Rantisi Hospital in Gaza City.

One of the most harrowing incidents occurred in Abasan Al-Kabira, where an Israeli airstrike destroyed the home of Dr. Ayman Abu Tayr, killing nine family members, including children. Four others remain buried under the debris. In Jabalia, a residential building near Al-Omari Mosque was reduced to rubble, and in Beit Lahia, a house close to Al-Ribat Mosque was bombed, causing extensive damage. Another strike on Industry Street in Gaza City’s Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood added to the mounting death toll.

The violence also reached a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza City’s Al-Daraj neighborhood, where 25 people were killed and many more injured. In the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis, tents housing displaced families were targeted, leaving five dead, including two children, and dozens wounded. Strikes in the Saudi neighborhood of Rafah and artillery fire in Al-Fukhari, east of Khan Yunis, further exacerbated the carnage.

Muneer Al-Barsh, Director-General of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, described the situation as “catastrophic,” with 25 of Gaza’s 38 hospitals now out of service. He urgently appealed for field hospitals, beds, and operating rooms to cope with the overwhelming number of casualties. Al-Barsh also highlighted the dire consequences of the ongoing siege and the closure of the Rafah crossing, which has cut off access to essential medical supplies, effectively condemning many to death.

The Government Media Office in Gaza condemned Israel’s actions, accusing it of blatantly violating the ceasefire and continuing its assault on civilians. The office called for immediate international intervention to stop the bloodshed and allow Gaza’s crippled health system to function. As the death toll rises, the people of Gaza endure yet another chapter of suffering under relentless aggression.
