In the latest wave of violence, Israeli forces have killed at least 12 Palestinians, including a mother and her children, in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. Among the deceased were five children, one just six months old, all victims of relentless artillery bombardments that have devastated the area.
Israeli troops have further escalated their attacks, demolishing residential buildings in the Tal as-Sultan neighbourhood of Rafah. Drones targeted more residential structures, while tanks advanced through Khan Younis and the Bureij refugee camp, intensifying the already dire humanitarian crisis.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that since the resumption of large-scale airstrikes on March 18, at least 830 individuals have been killed, with a staggering total of 50,183 fatalities since the onset of the conflict on October 7, 2023. The United Nations has revealed that over 124,000 Palestinians have been displaced, as families flee the ongoing assaults with nowhere safe to turn.
The humanitarian situation is critical, with Gaza’s healthcare system overwhelmed. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warns that hospitals are operating at over 80% capacity, struggling to provide necessary care as medical supplies dwindle. Continuous calls for blood donations highlight the urgent need for medical assistance.
In a shocking development, Israeli forces abducted 15 paramedics in Rafah while they were attempting to assist the wounded. The Gaza government has condemned this act as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, holding both Israel and the United States accountable for the safety of humanitarian workers.
As Israel continues its military campaign, supported by Western allies, the international community faces growing calls to intervene. The atrocities committed against civilians and medical personnel underscore the urgent need for accountability and the implementation of international legal decisions aimed at protecting the rights of Palestinians. The ongoing conflict, fuelled by decades of oppression, demands immediate action to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
