The Palestinian Non-Governmental Organisations Network (PNGO) has issued an urgent plea to the international community, warning of a catastrophic humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza. More than six weeks after Israel imposed a complete closure on all crossings and obstructed humanitarian aid, the Strip is now in the grip of famine, mass displacement, and a collapsing health system.
Children and women, the most vulnerable, are suffering the harshest consequences. Malnutrition is spreading rapidly, with basic food and medical supplies virtually nonexistent. Hospitals, already decimated by Israeli strikes, have become death traps—lacking medicine, clean water, and electricity. Meanwhile, over 600,000 tonnes of waste remain uncollected, exacerbating the spread of disease in what aid groups are calling one of the most severe humanitarian crises of our time.
More than 90% of Gaza's population has been displaced. Families are surviving without shelter, clothing, or the barest essentials for dignity. Entire neighbourhoods have been reduced to rubble. The PNGO accuses the Israeli occupation of pursuing a strategy of systematic erasure—not only of homes and infrastructure, but of Palestinian identity and life itself.
The militarisation of aid has worsened the crisis. Israel’s attempts to control and politicise humanitarian assistance violate international humanitarian law, effectively weaponising relief and using it as a tool of coercion. The PNGO welcomed recent statements by the UN Secretary-General opposing such measures, calling for the restoration of neutral humanitarian access through recognised international and Palestinian channels.
As Gaza’s children starve, as hospitals shut their doors, and as families live among the ruins, the world’s silence is deafening. The PNGO’s statement is not just a report—it is a cry for justice. A call for an end to genocide, an end to the blockade, and an end to the impunity that allows such suffering to persist.
Gaza is not a tragedy of nature. It is a man-made catastrophe. And it must end now.
