Raúl Incertis, a Spanish anesthetist, is volunteering at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, where he has been witnessing firsthand the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing conflict. Describing the situation as "industrial extermination," Incertis paints a grim picture of the daily horrors that have unfolded since the start of the war. He speaks of the relentless bombardment of civilian areas in Khan Yunis, where children, the majority of Gaza’s population, are being brought in dead or severely injured on a daily basis.
With medical supplies running dangerously low, Incertis warns that in less than a month, they will be left without essential resources. “We are already reusing syringes and morphine, but now we are down to just ibuprofen to ease the pain. The situation is dire, and there is no humanitarian aid coming in,” he says. For those who have survived the bombings, post-surgery care is nearly non-existent. The makeshift hospital is struggling to keep up, with minimal equipment and no fresh supplies.
The psychological toll is equally devastating. Nearly every medical professional at the hospital has lost family members, and they now live in temporary shelters amid the rubble. The bombing of refugee camps, where civilians have sought refuge, has intensified the already unbearable situation. The doctor describes how civilians are subjected to indiscriminate attacks, with Israeli forces justifying their actions by claiming to target Hamas, a narrative Incertis strongly refutes.
“The emergency room is filled with the cries of grieving families, while the morgue and ICU overflow with the wounded and dead,” Incertis says. "The international media has largely turned its back on Gaza, and the world seems to have forgotten this ongoing massacre.” The bleak reality of Gaza is far from over, and the situation continues to deteriorate by the day, with no end in sight.
