The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that around half a million Palestinians have been displaced in Gaza over the past month, as relentless Israeli assaults continue to devastate the besieged enclave.
In a statement on Friday, UNRWA highlighted that constant evacuation orders have confined Palestinians to less than a third of Gaza’s territory, rendering even that fragmented and unsafe. Overcrowded shelters are now overwhelmed, while critical services are collapsing under the strain and basic resources are rapidly depleting.
The UN Human Rights Office earlier reported that since 18 March, Israeli forces had issued at least 21 evacuation orders, targeting vast areas including Rafah. Tens of thousands have been trapped without access to aid, even as airstrikes intensify across the Strip, leaving no refuge for civilians.
Between 18 March and 9 April alone, approximately 224 Israeli airstrikes struck residential buildings and tents sheltering displaced families. The UN documented direct attacks on tent encampments in Al-Mawasi, an area Palestinians were told to flee to for safety.
Since the renewed onslaught began in mid-March, Gaza has faced a campaign of relentless violence that many describe as acts of genocide, carried out under international complicity and widespread silence. The suffering of Gaza’s civilians deepens each day, with no safe horizon in sight.
