Another Palestinian Journalist Killed as Gaza’s Voices Are Silenced One by One

Palestinian journalist Hassan Sammour was killed on Thursday when an Israeli airstrike struck his family home east of Khan Yunis, adding yet another name to the growing list of media workers silenced in Gaza. He was a presenter at Sawt Al-Aqsa Radio, known for his commitment to telling the stories of his people through years of siege and suffering.

Sammour’s death brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza to 216 — a toll that reflects what many describe as a systematic attempt to silence the Palestinian narrative. With each airstrike on a home, each flattened newsroom, Gaza’s press corps is being deliberately erased.

Calls are growing louder from local media bodies urging international journalism federations and press freedom organisations to speak out. But the silence from Western governments and major global institutions has only deepened the wound, fuelling a sense of abandonment among Palestinian journalists who continue to work under fire.

Journalism in Gaza has become an act of resistance — one paid for with blood. As bombs fall and cameras are crushed, the right to truth is under direct attack.
