The chief rabbi of the Sephardic Jews, Yitzhak Youssef, is visiting the UAE, where he will open a religious school today, Saturday, in the first visit of a senior rabbi to an Arab country, according to Israeli media.
The rabbi’s office confirmed that he went to the UAE on Thursday in a sign of strengthening relations between the UAE and Israel.
During his visit, which will last until Sunday, he is scheduled to meet with senior Emirati officials and will open a Jewish school and install Rabbi Levi Duchman as the chief rabbi of the UAE's Jewish community.
Moreover, he will visit the Jewish Community Center and Beit Tefila Synagogue in Dubai, in addition to the kosher restaurant in Burj Khalifa.
The visit of the Chief Rabbi is historic and it is a great honor for us to welcome him here in the Emirates," said Rabbi Duchman. He added, "We are very pleased with his arrival as we are currently opening many of our new institutions that are being built quickly and efficiently."
This comes after the UAE and Israel signed the so-called "Abraham Accords" on normalizing their relations and establishing cooperation in various fields.
