In North Sinai, Egyptian Red Crescent warehouses are overflowing with thousands of tonnes of humanitarian aid destined for Gaza, food, medicine, and shelter supplies, left to spoil under the scorching sun while Israel’s siege condemns Palestinians to starvation.
An Egyptian Red Crescent official in North Sinai revealed that shipments, enough to feed two million people for months, have been blocked since May 2024, when Israeli forces seized and shut the Rafah crossing. Much of the aid, including urgently donated supplies, has now expired or been ruined by heat, even as Gaza faces famine.
UNRWA reports over 6,000 aid trucks stand idle, their contents rotting, while Israel’s blockade strangles Gaza. "The losses are catastrophic," said UNRWA’s Adnan Abu Hasna, as Palestinians scavenge for scraps of bread and contaminated water.
Amjad Shawa of the Gaza NGO Network described hunger at unprecedented levels, with Israel weaponising starvation. "This is beyond catastrophe, it is a deliberate massacre," he said. Despite global demands, including from 25 nations, to open crossings, Israel continues blocking aid, leaving millions to suffer.
Since May, not a single truck has entered Rafah, once Gaza’s lifeline. With only 19,345 trucks allowed in 21 months, barely 39 days’ worth of supplies, the world watches as aid piles up in Sinai and Gaza starves. Relief agencies accuse Israel of using hunger as a weapon, while calls to end this genocide go ignored.
