The humanitarian disaster in Gaza has reached an unimaginable scale, with hospitals collapsing under relentless bombardment, shortages of life-saving supplies, and staggering loss of life among those tasked with saving others. Figures released by medical staff reveal that more than 1,600 doctors, nurses and health workers have been killed while carrying out their duties. Alongside them, 246 journalists and 38 civil defence workers have also lost their lives, individuals who stood at the forefront of truth and rescue efforts in impossible conditions.
Entire hospitals have been wiped out, with 22 facilities forced out of service, including the main government hospital that once served as a cornerstone of Gaza’s health system. Those still operating are not spared; wards packed with the wounded are bombed, medicines have run out, and doctors are performing surgeries without basic equipment. At the same time, restrictions on the entry of medicine, water, baby formula and essential supplies have left the population on the brink of complete collapse.
Children are bearing the heaviest burden. More than 600,000 have been deprived of basic vaccinations, while malnutrition, anaemia and famine are spreading rapidly. At least 18,000 children and 11,000 women have already been killed. The cumulative toll since October 2023 paints a harrowing picture: over 62,000 dead, more than 158,000 injured, thousands missing under rubble, hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine claiming hundreds more lives, including more than 100 children.
Doctors and humanitarian voices on the ground insist these figures are not statistics but a testament to crimes committed in full view of the world. They stress that silence and inaction from the international community is complicity, warning that without urgent intervention, Gaza’s health system, and its people, will be erased entirely.
