In the latest surge of violence, Gaza has endured a devastating escalation, with dozens of civilians killed and hundreds wounded in relentless airstrikes and artillery bombardments. Over the past 24 hours alone, more than 60 lives have been lost in Gaza City, including women and children, as attacks have intensified following the collapse of a fragile ceasefire. Medical teams, working under extreme danger, are struggling to treat casualties in severely damaged hospitals, with access to key health facilities becoming increasingly perilous. Appeals have been made for urgent protection of medical services and safe access to care.
The violence has spread across the territory, with strikes targeting residential areas, refugee camps, and medical facilities. Drone attacks and artillery shelling have left homes destroyed and civilians trapped under rubble. In some cases, booby-trapped vehicles have been detonated in densely populated neighbourhoods, intensifying the scale of destruction. These operations have compounded the humanitarian crisis, deepening the suffering of a population already enduring years of blockade, deprivation, and repeated military offensives.
Since the war’s onset, Gaza has recorded more than 66,000 deaths and nearly 170,000 injuries, the majority of them women and children. The scale of the loss has underscored the enduring human cost of the conflict and raised urgent questions about the protection of civilians and the legality of such operations under international law. The latest assaults mark a grim chapter in a conflict that shows little sign of abating.
