Gaza Faces Starvation Amid Blockade Despite Ceasefire

Despite the recent ceasefire, the threat of famine in Gaza persists as aid remains painfully insufficient. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has warned that the Israeli authorities continue to use deprivation as a weapon, allowing only minimal supplies to enter. Over two days following the truce, just 173 aid trucks were permitted entry, while no deliveries were allowed on Monday or today, citing pretexts ranging from the release of Palestinian prisoners to Jewish holidays. The Rafah crossing remains closed, prolonging the suffering of civilians.

The situation underscores the stark reality that access to humanitarian aid in Gaza is not a concession but a legal and moral imperative. Humanitarian assistance must be provided impartially and solely based on need, without delay or discrimination. Continued restrictions on aid and the failure to uphold ceasefire agreements constitute part of the ongoing genocidal war, preventing the population from receiving essentials for survival.

Observers stress that only a permanent halt to military operations and the complete lifting of the blockade can prevent further catastrophe. International guarantees are crucial to ensure that aid can flow unhindered, safeguarding civilians from further deprivation and ensuring that no pretext can again be used to deny them lifesaving support.
