Gaza Choked with Debris as Israeli Forces Dump War Rubble in Civilian Areas

Israeli forces are reportedly dumping millions of tonnes of construction waste and military debris across Gaza, raising fears of a looming environmental disaster in the already devastated territory. Footage obtained by Israeli media shows trucks offloading rubble on streets near the Kissufim crossing, a practice reportedly authorised by field commanders with little regard for proper disposal.

Since the start of the genocidal war, Gaza has seen 61 million tonnes of rubble generated from widespread destruction, including 250,000 damaged or destroyed buildings. Experts warn that roughly 15% of this debris could be contaminated with hazardous materials, threatening public health and the fragile ecosystem. Observers say some materials, such as iron and concrete blocks, may be repurposed by armed groups, further complicating the humanitarian situation.

The UN Environment Programme has called for urgent action, emphasising that removing debris and restoring essential services is vital to alleviating human suffering, safeguarding food and water security, and preventing long-term environmental damage. Officials warn that continued neglect could leave Gaza buried under rubble, endangering both current and future generations.
