Large parts of Gaza woke up once again to the sound of explosions as residential blocks were levelled overnight, leaving families scrambling for safety in streets already scarred by weeks of genocidal war. Columns of armoured vehicles pushed further into neighbourhoods east of Khan Younis, firing continuously into areas where civilians had remained in the hope that a declared pause would offer a moment of relief. Instead, the shelling intensified, spreading from the central region near Bureij to the southern perimeter of Rafah, where helicopters unleashed sustained bursts of fire above densely populated districts.
In the north, repeated airstrikes struck the Jabalia area, adding to the scale of devastation that has gradually erased whole quarters of Gaza City. Entire buildings were deliberately detonated in the Tuffah district, turning blocks once filled with families into piles of twisted steel and shattered concrete. Residents described the night as one of the most suffocating since the beginning of the genocide, with the constant rumble of aircraft overhead and tanks advancing through already-damaged streets.
Emergency crews, working under extreme risk, managed to enter parts of Tuffah after hours of negotiation for safe passage. They recovered several injured people, among them women and children, and guided trapped families out through narrow corridors between collapsed homes. Those rescued spoke of being surrounded by drone fire and tank shells for hours, unable to move or call for help. Despite a ceasefire announced on 10 October, the bombardments have continued almost daily, eroding any remaining sense of security for civilians who have already endured months of siege, displacement and destruction.
