Palestinian Awqaf condemns Israel's closure of Ibrahimi Mosque

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs condemned in a statement the Israeli closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque for ten days, saying that it is "a dangerous step related to overcoming Palestinian sovereignty over it."

The ministry stated that "this dangerous step is working to remove it from Palestinian sovereignty to Israeli sovereignty, which is unacceptable, as the Ibrahimi Mosque is a pure Islamic endowment, and sovereignty over it rests with the Palestinian people."

The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Husam Abu Al-Rub, confirmed that the ministry is looking seriously at this decision, which comes within a rejected context, especially as it comes within a number of Israeli violations related to the holy religious sites in Palestine, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the shrine of the Prophet Musa, and now the Ibrahimi Mosque.

Abu Al-Rub called on the international community, human rights institutions, and institutions for preserving heritage and culture to work to put an end to these behaviors that undermine Palestinian sovereignty over the Palestinian holy sites.

It is worth noting that the Israeli forces yesterday evening closed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, in the south of the West Bank, to worshipers and visitors for a period of 10 days, under the pretext of preventing the Coronavirus.
