Tunisian Students Rally Against Execution Law Targeting Palestinian Prisoners

In the heart of Tunis, dozens of university students took to the streets on Thursday to protest a controversial law recently passed by the occupying authorities’ parliament, which permits the execution of Palestinian prisoners. The demonstration, organised by the General Union of Tunisian Students, set off from the University of Ez-Zitouna, winding its way along Habib Bourguiba Avenue to the Municipal Theatre of Tunis, where protesters raised their voices in solidarity with those imprisoned.

Participants demanded the immediate release of Palestinian prisoners and expressed support for prominent detainees such as Ahmed Sa’adat and Marwan Barghouti. Student leaders described the law as a blatant breach of international legal standards, warning that it poses a direct threat to the lives of Palestinians held in detention.

Representatives from the student union highlighted the broader context, framing the legislation as part of a systematic campaign against Palestinians. Current estimates indicate that over 9,500 Palestinians remain in occupation prisons, including women and children, with persistent reports of torture and denial of adequate medical care. Demonstrations in Tunis, according to activists, mirror wider regional outrage and growing calls for international accountability.
