A British political activist has accused Israeli occupation forces of shooting and beating him following the interception of a humanitarian flotilla attempting to reach Gaza, amid mounting international scrutiny over the ongoing genocidal war on the enclave.
Zak Khan, a campaigner from Hampshire, was among roughly 180 international participants aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla when Israeli naval forces intercepted the vessel in international waters last week. The mission aimed to deliver humanitarian supplies and challenge restrictions that have left Gaza facing deepening humanitarian devastation.
Speaking after his release from Israeli detention, Khan said he suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during the raid and endured physical violence while being held for several days. He alleged that detainees were subjected to harsh treatment, including deprivation of adequate food, water and sleep during interrogations. Israeli authorities have not publicly responded to the specific allegations.
The incident has intensified criticism from solidarity movements and human rights advocates, who argue that the seizure of civilian activists in international waters raises serious legal and humanitarian concerns. Campaigners say the flotilla sought to draw attention to the worsening conditions in Gaza, where months of bombardment, blockade and displacement have fuelled accusations of genocide and collective punishment against the Palestinian population.
