The armed wing of Hamas released a previously unpublished message on Sunday attributed to senior commander Izz al-Din al-Haddad, written roughly three months before he was killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza City.
The message, dated February 2026, reflected on the regional and international response to Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, expressing disappointment over what Haddad described as the limited direct support offered to Palestinians during more than two years of destruction and starvation across the territory.
In the statement, Haddad wrote that despite what he viewed as widespread abandonment, armed groups in Gaza would continue their efforts and maintain their resistance. He also claimed that the events launched on 7 October would ultimately reshape the political landscape of the Middle East and carry wider global consequences.
The text further referred to the large-scale devastation in Gaza, including the destruction of homes, agricultural land and civilian infrastructure, arguing that the deaths and suffering caused during the genocidal war would not be forgotten. Haddad stated that accountability for those killed remained, in his words, “a responsibility carried by all”.
Israel announced earlier this month that Haddad had been killed in an air strike targeting a residential apartment in Gaza City. He had long been regarded as one of the most senior military figures within the Qassam Brigades, previously serving as commander of the Gaza Brigade before later assuming leadership responsibilities within the organisation’s military command structure.
Israeli authorities had pursued Haddad for years, accusing him of playing a central operational role in directing military activities and overseeing defensive systems inside Gaza.
