Israeli air strikes killed at least ten Palestinians in central Gaza early on Sunday, including an entire family and several police officers, as bombardment continued across the besieged territory despite the ongoing ceasefire violations.
A Palestinian couple and their one-year-old son from the Abu Mallouh family were killed at dawn after an Israeli strike hit their apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Local reports said the attack completely destroyed the family home in the densely populated area of central Gaza.
Later in the morning, another Israeli strike targeted a police post, killing at least seven people, among them five Palestinian police officers and a child. Additional bombardment overnight struck a house in Deir al-Balah, causing extensive destruction to nearby residential buildings.
Gaza’s Interior Ministry said Israeli forces were increasingly targeting police personnel despite their role in maintaining public order, monitoring markets and supporting civilian security. Officials described the attacks on police facilities as violations of international humanitarian law, stressing that police infrastructure is considered civilian in nature and should not be deliberately targeted.
In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas said the repeated targeting of police officers formed part of Israel’s wider genocidal war on Gaza after failing to break Palestinian resistance or force the population into submission.
According to local authorities, at least 42 Palestinian police officers have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect in October 2024. Officials also accused Israel of repeatedly breaching the truce while continuing restrictions on humanitarian aid entering the territory.
The latest strikes come amid mounting international concern over the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. Volker Türk recently condemned the continuing attacks, warning that Palestinians were being killed in shelters, homes, medical facilities and classrooms, while describing the pattern of violence as evidence of broad impunity.
Since October 2023, more than 72,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed during Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, the majority of them women and children, while much of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, water systems and residential neighbourhoods, has been devastated.
